Undergraduate Certificate 2016 Graduates

Chican@ & Latin@ Studies Certificate Students play a pivotal role in the development of the scholarly study of the Chican@ and Latin@ population, which is now the largest minority group and the fastest growing population in the United States. CLSP Certificate students produce scholarship and expressive culture that exemplifies the Wisconsin Idea: academic excellence, civic engagement, and diversity. 

One of the benefits of a Certificate in the Program is that all Certificate students who complete the requirements for a Certificate in Chican@ & Latin@ Studies will graduate with a portfolio that showcases the best examples of their academic work in the Program. The portfolio demonstrates to future employers CLSP Certificate students’ ability to think analytically, critically, and creatively.

Requirements for a Certificate in Chican@ & Latin@ Studies

 Completion of the certificate requires a minimum of 15 credit hours in courses originating from or cross-listed with Chican@ & Latin@ Studies Program.  A maximum of three credits earned through a directed study course (CHICLA 699) can count toward the certificate.  A minimum of cumulative grade point average of 2.0 is required with Chican@ & Latin@ Studies certificate.

  1. CLS 201, Introduction to Chican@ and Latin@ Studies (required);
  2. One other introductory course (CHICLA 102 or any CHICLA 200 numbered course); 
  3. At least 9 credits of advanced courses (Any CHICLA course numbered over 300, HDFS 474, History 408 or Political Science/History 422)

Spring 2016 Graduation 

The 2016-2017 CLS Graduation Ceremony was held in the Education Building on Bascom Hill during Graduation Weekend, where CLS graduates, families, and friends joined together to commemorate the academic achievements of our students. This year marked the twenty-second graduating class for the CLS Program.
