Desde 1976: Our 50th Anniversary Symposium starts tomorrow!
Desde 1976: Education, Culture, and Community will kick off at 3pm tomorrow, Friday, October 16th in Irving & Dorothy Levy Hall #2212 where Dr. Theresa Delgadillo, Paola Huerta-Cervantes, and Provost John Zumbrunnen will be giving opening remarks. You can find the full schedule of events here. All are welcome! This event is free and open to the public.
Note that we will convene again on Monday, October 19th at 1pm for a final panel, “Racial Fluidities and Alternative Knowledges in 21st Century Ethnic Studies” co-sponsored by American Indian & Indigenous Studies, African American Studies, Asian American Studies, Spanish & Portuguese, and the Havens-Wright Center.
The program will be holding an Archive Drive from 1:00pm to 3:00pm in Levy Hall #3270, right before the start of the symposium. Please consider bringing documents, photos, or objects related to the CLS Program to donate to the UW Archives. Do you have pictures of events and people that shaped the CLS Program’s history? Maybe publications or event flyers created by students involved with the program? Maybe pins, T-shirts, or other artifacts? We hope you will consider donating items like these. Staff will be there to help you with the process.
Saturday’s 12:30-2pm keynote address from Rafael Pérez-Torres will be live-streamed. Because we have limited seating available in the Fluno Center’s Sky Room, please visit our registration table to put your name on a reservation list if you wish to attend in-person. We hope you will enjoy “Chicanx Poetry: Voice of Dissent and Desire” virtually via livestream if not in-person. Here is the link to the livestream.
Parking on campus can sometimes be difficult; we suggest reviewing UW–Madison’s Transportation Services website here to view current availability in lots. Lot 45 is the closest lot to Levy Hall. You may also consider utilizing Madison Metro Transit: Route 80 is free to all and runs every 40 minutes on weekends.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to Peter Haney, our Administrative Manager, at pchaney@wisc.edu.
