Armando Ibarra, a Professor with the School for Workers and former Director of the Chican@ & Latin@ Studies Program, was quoted in a recent story on Centro Hispano of Dane County published by the Capital Times. The story describes the work of Centro Hispano, the leading nonprofit organization serving Latinx in Dane County. In an interview with the Cap Times’ Jana Rose Schleis, Prof. Ibarra recalled seeking out Centro Hispano when he first moved to Madison, highlighting the organization’s role as a hub where social service providers coordinate and people gather to build community. Centro Hispano is a significant partner for many CLS faculty who conduct community-based research and involve students in service-learning, and students in the Program are among recipients of its valuable “becas” scholarships.
