CLS affiliate and budgeted faculty are prominent among those recently honored by the University with Vilas Awards. These include Aurora Santiago Ortiz (CLS/Gender & Women’s Studies) and Christopher Saldaña (Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis), who received Vilas Early Career Investigator Awards, and Jorell Meléndez-Badillo, (History), who received the Vilas Faculty Mid-Career Investigator Award. Both awards recognize research and teaching excellence and provide flexible research funding for three years. The awards are named for U.S. Senator and UW Regent William F. Vilas (1840-1908). CLS faculty including Alfonso Morales (Planning and Landscape Architecture), Armando Ibarra (School for Workers/CLS), and Theresa Delgadillo (English/CLS) have previously been named Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professors. Affiliate faculty member Falina Enriquez (Anthropology) was honored with an award in the University’s Vilas Associates Competition earlier this semester.
