Before her retirement, Mary Louise Gómez was Professor of Literacy Studies & Teacher Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. She taught courses to aspiring teachers concerning varying aspects of diversity—such as race, ethnicity, social class, gender identity/sexual orientation, language background, and gender. She also taught graduate courses focusing on life history and narrative inquiry as ways to understand peoples’ experiences. Her research explores the lives of teachers from marginalized groups, classroom dynamics, the use of technology in the classroom and more. Her work has appeared in such journals as Teaching and Teacher Education, Anthropology and Education, the Teachers College Record, and the Urban Review. During her career at the UW-Madison, Prof. Gómez provided diligent and valuable service to the Chican@ & Latin@ Studies Program.
