Prof. Jim Escalante Retires after Decades of Service

escalante.JPGAfter a thirty one-year career at the University of Wisconsin, Professor of Art Jim Escalante has retired. A long-time supporter of the Chican@/Latin@ Studies Program, Professor Escalante worked diligently on behalf of the program and the students who benefited from our courses and programs, leaving a lasting imprint on the Program. He served two terms as CLS Director, as Advisory Committee Chair, as a member of the CLS Executive Committee, not to mention chairing the tenure review committees of many CLS faculty. Professor Escalante can also boast a distinguished record of achievement at the university at large. He chaired the Art Department from 1995 to 1998 and again from 2001 to 2006.  Many CLS faculty members worked closely with Jim over the years and greatly benefited from his insights, experience, and advocacy. He has been a wonderful colleague and friend, and we all wish him the best as he moves on to retirement.  To sample our distinguished colleague’s creative work,  check out the archives on his photoshelter site, which contains a number of remarkable images.
