CLS Certificate student Viridiana Carreno will be among three outstanding undergraduates who will address the College of Letters and Science’s Scholarship Reception this Friday, October 15th in Union South. This annual event celebrates recent scholarship recipients and honors the generosity of scholarship donors. A senior Biology major on a pre-medicine track, Viridiana is also pursuing a Certificate in Gender and Women’s Studies. She hails from the town of Walworth in Southern Wisconsin, and is the proud daughter of immigrants. After personal experiences showed her how the great need was for participation in medicine by historically underrepresented communities, she became interested in healthcare. One day, she hopes to work with those communities to address the many health care disparities that exist. Her speech will highlight her personal story and experiences at UW-Madison, focusing on the challenges that students of color and low-income students face and the impact L&S scholarships have made in her life, and in the lives of students like her. Congratulations to Viridiana for having been selected to address this important celebration.
